Jon Stein, CFA

CEO and Strategic Allocation

Jon started Betterment after years of consulting for Wall Street's biggest financial institutions. He studied economics at Harvard University and finance at Columbia Business School. He is a CFA® charterholder.

Dan Egan, MSc

Quantitative and Behavioral Finance

Dan was the Behavioral Finance Specialist at Barclays Americas and helped found the London team in 2007. He earned his Master of Science in Decision Science from the London School of Economics.

Bruce Greenwald, PhD

Professor of Finance, Columbia University

Bruce is one of the world's strongest advocates of value investing and assists Betterment with its asset allocation models.

Mark Zurack, MBA

Professor of Finance, Columbia University

Mark brings deep experience in equity trading to Betterment from his days at Goldman Sachs, advising on the nuance of tax and execution risks in capital markets.

Rob Stavis

Partner, Bessemer Venture Partners

With a background managing and trading fixed-income securities, Rob assists with ensuring the risk management in our bond basket is both ideal and practical.

Robert Jenkins, MBA

Global Head of Research, Thomson Reuters

Bob currently serves as the Global Head of Research with Thomson Reuters and has spent over 25 years working in the investment management industry with firms such as Fidelity and McKinsey.

Chris Bischoff

Senior Investment Director, Kinnevik AB

Chris brings a wealth of experience as a board director across several global companies. Prior to his current role with Kinnevik, he was the Managing Director and Head of European Media and Internet at Goldman Sachs.

Eric Stockland

Chief Strategy Officer, IEX

An electronic trading expert, Eric guides product strategy and oversees regulatory policy for IEX—a new stock exchange designed to help people trade fairly and compete with confidence.

Larry Kantor

Former Managing Director, Head of Research, Barclays

Larry is a former executive committee member for Barclays. Prior to that, he was head of foreign exchange strategy for JP Morgan, an economist for the Federal Reserve Board, and a professor of economics at Lehigh University.

Sanjiv Das, PhD

Professor of Finance, Santa Clara University

Sanjiv brings to our platform years of research expertise in goal‐based portfolio optimization, machine learning, and financial engineering. He previously taught at Harvard Business School and UC Berkeley.

Bill Riegel

As the former CIO and Senior Managing Director of TIAA, Bill oversaw the key investment functions of a $600 billion platform. He now helps support environmental and social causes as the Chair of the Rockefeller Family Fund.

Petter Kolm, PhD

Professor & Director of Mathematics in Finance MS Program, NYU Courant

Petter is an optimization expert and Goldman Sachs strategist in quantitative investments. He is also the founder of The Heimdall Group, LLC, a data science and systematic trading consultancy.

Our Investment Team works in-house and focuses on choosing optimal funds for your portfolio, determining new ways to help lower costs and taxes, and building and improving our projection models.

Prior to joining Betterment, Alex worked at JPMorgan for 10 years in Credit Markets and Risk Technology. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional with a degree in Operations Research Engineering from Cornell University.

Rukun Vaidya

Capital Markets and Trade Execution

Rukun joins Betterment after five years performing risk research at a multi-strategy hedge fund, where he focused on statistical arbitrage, quantitative macro, and quantitative commodities. He has a degree in Operations Research from Cornell University.

Boris Khentov, JD

Tax and Securities Law

Boris is a tax and capital markets attorney, with a law degree from Northwestern. He has a BA in Computer Science from Harvard University, bringing a unique mix of engineering skills and legal and regulatory experience to Betterment.

Adam Grealish

Portfolio Management and Trading

Adam joins after founding a natural language processing startup. Prior to joining Betterment, Adam was a vice president at Goldman Sachs, where he traded macro credit products. Adam holds an honors degree in economics from University of Chicago.

Eric Bronnenkant, CPA, CFP®

Tax Optimization Strategy

Eric is Betterment's Head of Tax. His experience includes working for Ernst & Young and Fidelity Investments. Eric holds M.S. degrees in Accounting and Taxation from Seton Hall University as well as an MBA in Quantitative Finance from NYU. He also serves as an adjunct taxation professor at Seton Hall University.
