How do I set up Tax Coordination?

A Tax-Coordinated Portfolio is designed for investors who are saving for retirement in more than one type of account, including Taxable accounts, Traditional IRAs, Roth IRAs, SEP IRAs, both Traditional and/or Roth 401(k)s, and HSAs generally with the same time horizon.

Goal and account types that cannot be included in a Tax-Coordinated Portfolio are Joint accounts, Trust accounts, External accounts, Cash Reserve, Betterment Checking accounts, or Crypto accounts.

Setting up a Tax-Coordinated Portfolio can only be done on a web browser using the following steps.

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Select your “Retirement” goal from the menu on the left side of your page.
  3. Click on the actual account under "Accounts."
  4. Click on "Settings" at the top of the page.
  5. Under Portfolio, choose "Edit" next to Tax-Coordination.
