Oct. 15, 2021. Last day to file your 2020 taxes with an extension.

Oct. 15 is the deadline for individuals to file their taxes if they filed for an extension. This is also the deadline for recharacterization of IRA contributions for individuals who filed for an extension or are amending their timely-filed tax return.

Feb. 16, 2021. Forms 1099-B and 1099-DIV released.

Feb. 16 is the deadline for Betterment to provide Form 1099-B/DIV, which reports investment sales and dividends received in a taxable investment account.

June 30, 2021. Form 5498 released—no need to file.

Form 5498 reports IRA contributions, conversions, and rollovers into retirement accounts. While this form is important to support IRA basis and rollovers if ever audited, it is not needed when you file your tax return.

May 17, 2021 (11:59 PM ET). Betterment’s 2020 IRA contribution deadline.

You must initiate your deposit through Betterment by 11:59 PM ET on May 17, to ensure that your contribution completes by the deadline. May 17 is also the deadline for the recharacterization of IRA contributions, unless you have filed an extension.

Dec. 31, 2020. Last day to donate shares to charity or convert a Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA.

Dec. 31 is the last day to donate shares to charity by the end of year deadlines. It’s also the last day you can convert a Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA and have it count for the 2020 tax year.
