Where can I find Betterment’s SOC reports?
Betterment’s SOC reports and other security documents are in the Betterment Trust Center at trust.betterment.com. They include:
- Betterment @ Work SOC 1 Audit Report: the report most 401(k) plan auditors ask for
- Betterment Securities SOC 1 Type II Audit Report
- SOC 2 Type II Audit Report
- Betterment @ Work Security Summary
- Department of Labor Cybersecurity Whitepaper
- Standard Information Gathering (SIG) questionnaire
How do I get access?
- Go to trust.betterment.com.
- Select Get Access and fill out the request form.
- Once your request is approved, you can view and download the documents.
Plan sponsors can request access themselves or share the link with their auditor.
Which report does my auditor need?
For a 401(k) plan audit, auditors usually ask for the Betterment @ Work SOC 1 Audit Report, which covers the controls over how your plan’s records are kept. If they’re unsure, the Trust Center lists each report and the period it covers.
What’s a bridge letter, and how do I get one?
A SOC report covers a set period of time. If your plan year ends after that period, your auditor may ask for a bridge letter (sometimes called a gap letter). It confirms there were no significant changes to controls between the end of the report period and a later date.
Can I get SOC reports for Betterment’s partners, like Inspira or Apex?
Some auditors also ask for SOC 1 reports from the plan’s trustee or custodian. Betterment’s Trust Center only includes Betterment’s own reports.
I can’t open the Trust Center, or my request hasn’t been approved. What should I do?
Contact Plan Support or your Account Manager with your plan name and the documents your auditor needs.
