Greater personalization with Unified Managed Accounts

With Unified Managed Accounts (UMAs), bring your best strategies together. Combine models from our model marketplace with your own custom models to build sophisticated multi-sleeve portfolios tailored to each client, at scale.
Betterment keeps operations simple with:
- Coordinated rebalancing: You set the target allocation, and Betterment keeps the mix between model sleeves in line with it, so your portfolios stay true to your construction.
- Automated tax management: Tax-loss harvesting and gains allowance management continue to run, coordinating gains and losses across strategies.
- One consolidated household view: Clients see performance, holdings, and drift for the entire portfolio in one place.
More control when exiting positions
Now, you can choose the tax-lot selection strategy for each position you exit, giving you greater flexibility to tailor your approach to each client's unique needs.
- Check out Harvest Gains: The newest addition to our sell-strategy options that lets you sell shares with long-term gains before short-term gains to help you lock in appreciation and reset cost basis for clients in lower tax brackets.
- Compare outcomes before you trade: The estimated tax impact updates instantly as you switch strategies, so you can review it before you submit the order.
You can also see more before you sell. Click into any holding in a client account to see price details, position summary, and security description, all in one place.

Cash in custom models
Get more control over portfolio construction and greater transparency around cash. Set your own cash target in custom models and see cash as its own line item, so you know exactly how it fits into each client's portfolio. Note: Cash in custom models does not earn interest or accrue fees.
AI-powered document reader removes manual data entry
Upload a brokerage statement and let AI extract transfer details and positions during onboarding, helping reduce manual entry.
Our document reader builds on our seamless digital onboarding experience, which helps advisors set up transfers in as little as 30 seconds. It pulls client details, account types, and positions from the statement to pre-fill the transfer request. In one workflow, the advisor reviews, the client approves, and accounts open—which kicks ACATS into motion.
Itemized client invoices for every fee assessment

When enabled, automatically generate itemized client fee invoices whenever fees are assessed, including scheduled billing, one-off fees, and full withdrawals.
The fully automated workflow, built directly into the platform, helps support your billing needs, with the option to notify clients when statements are ready. Clients can access their invoices in one convenient location, with each invoice detailing the billing period, fees assessed, fee formula, AUM, and applicable firm and Betterment fees.
New pricing for advisors
We're lowering our standard platform fees.
Starting January 1, 2027, firms with $10M or more in assets on Betterment Advisor Solutions will pay 12 bps. One fee covers it all: custody, trading, models, tax tools, billing, and dedicated support. The scale we've reached lets us pass savings back to the advisors who helped us get here.

New integrations to put your firm's data to work
Growing your advisory firm doesn't have to mean navigating systems that don't sync. Our latest integrations with Milemarker and Invent bring your Betterment data together with your other custodians, CRM, portfolio, and planning tools in one source of truth, helping you spend less time reconciling, more time with clients.
