Finovate 2010: Thanks for Making Us Best in Show
Two days at the Fall 2010 Finovate conference was an exciting and invigorating experience. As anyone who's ever done a live demo knows, even the shortest walk-through takes a lot of preparation and focus. Pacing around backstage, reaching out to as many people as you can at the demo-table, shaking hands and trading cards.
We started Betterment with the idea that there are better ways to help people invest their money: that an easy, straightforward investment solution should exist without all the annoyances that traditional financial institutions put in the way. Whenever we get to share this message with other people that care about bringing new financial technology into the world, it reminds us of why we got into this business: put simply, to make smart investing more accessible and efficient.
It’s also really inspiring to us that we have so many innovative colleagues looking change the world of finance. The past two years have been one of the roughest times in American economic history, but this hardship has bred the desire to do things differently and created an opportunity for disruptive businesses. From Billshrink to Bundle, new tools are coming into the public eye that give the consumer the power to make better financial decisions.
Events like Finovate remind us that we’re not alone in our mission to empower people to make better personal finance decisions. And that’s an exciting thing. All the best, and thanks,
