It could be said that 2014 was the year that investment advice went digital as a growing number of people handed over their money to computers or to financial advisors they’ve met online only.
So will 2015 beat out 2014 as the year of the robo-advisor? Stein, for one, wants to hit the 100,000 client mark. This would be double the roster of 50,000 Betterment had at the start of the year. The company has achieved 100% year-over-year client growth since launch but that gets harder to do as scale increases.
